Santa shows off his ink in new poster for 'Rise of the Guardians'
Dreamworks is taking a big gamble when it comes to next year's big holiday animated event flick, Rise of the Guardians. For one, the name is instantly going to remind folks of Legend of the Guardians, the coolly received(but beautiful and underrated in my opinion) Zack Snyder film from a couple years back. And while the presence of Santa Claus may be enough to reel in a few folks looking for a Christmas themed excursion, the story is actually pretty dark, far from what families tend to be looking for that time of year.
And then there's the competition it faces, in the form of Pixar's innovative video game flick, Wreck-It-Ralph, which opens just a couple of weeks earlier. Is there enough room for both to be successful? Doubtful, and one thing I've learned over the years is to never bet against against the house that Buzz Lightyear built.
Rise of the Guardians is a contemporary fairy tale, featuring Santa Claus(Alec Baldwin), the Easter Bunny(Hugh Jackman), the Tooth Fairy(Isla Fisher), and Jack Frost(Chris Pine) uniting to stand against the Boogeyman(Jude Law) and his attempt to spread darkness across the world. William Joyce(Meet the Robinsons) has been trying to piece this film together for six years now, and will co-direct alongside Peter Ramsey. Dakota Goyo, the little hip hop dancin' kid from Real Steel, also lends his voice talents to the 3D CGI tale due out on November 21st.
