Sony picks up 'The Apocalypse', Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg to direct

Sweet news for anybody who wants to see a celebrity comedy version of Lord of the Flies. THR reports that Sony has scooped up the rights to Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse, based on the short film starring Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel as they struggle to survive a nuclear fall out. The original sprung from the minds of Rogen and his running buddy, Evan Goldberg, and featured the two(and a handful of their celebrity buds) stuck in a house after some sort of apocalyptic event, only to discover that a worse fate is being trapped in there with one another.

Sony has made the smart move to shorten the title to just The Apocalypse, and is making this the directorial debut of Rogen and Goldberg. The duo have worked famously on the scripting side of things, with hits like Superbad, Pineapple Express, and the unfortunate Green Hornet under their belts.

Just like the short, expect to see a number of celebrity cameos. Danny McBride and Craig Robinson are said to be next in line to join the cast. James Franco and Jonah Hill were confirmed back in September, which makes sense since the action takes place in Franco's apartment.  Baruchel and Rogen have also hinted at the possibility of other big names making cameos just as corpses. Really funny, hilarious corpses.

There's no hint of a start date yet, but can't you see this being all the rage at this summer's Comic-Con? I sure can.
