Only Vin Diesel has the nuts to make a look like that work. Filming has been underway on the second follow-up to Pitch Black, currently going under the title of Riddick. The independently financed sci-fi feature has run into some cash flow issues, which temporarily put a halt to production last year, but now things appear to rolling along quite smoothly.
To show that all their ducks are in a row, Diesel released this first image of himself on the set, and Riddick not only looks more jacked than ever, he also appears to have dressed himself in the pitch black(pun intended). The cape has got to go. It's like futuristic Liberace chic.
Confirmed to be joining Diesel are Katee Sackhoff, Nolan Funk, and Jordi Molla as one of the bad guys. Karl Urban, Dave Bautista and Bokeem Woodbine were reported to be circling roles as well, but I'm not sure if it's official yet for any of them. The story this time has Riddick betrayed by his own people and left for dead on a desolate island, growing stronger as he fights to survive attacks by dangerous creatures and the bounty hunters sent to finish him off.
No release date is set at this point, but hopefully we'll see it late this year, with Universal again handling the distribution.
