Warner Brothers shuffles 'Jack the Giant Killer' and 'Rock of Ages' release dates; kills 'Arthur & Lancelot'

Warner Brothers is starting off the relatively new year by making a few changes to it's upcoming schedule. The last year has seen the studio which emphasizes big budget tentpoles, taking a much harder look at it's balance sheet. The problems surrounding their live-action remake of Akira are well documented, but the issue also popped up with Steven Soderbergh's The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Paradise Lost, and David Dobkin's Arthur & Lancelot

Speaking of Dobkin's medieval flick, which was set to star Joel Kinnaman and Kit Harington in a modernized version of the knightly legend, it's now been totally wiped off the board after being put on hold late last year.  It'll hopefully end up at another studio, but for now don't count on seeing this one anytime soon. If ever.

When the trailer for Bryan Singer's fairy tale Jack the Giant Killer was released last month, the response wasn't exactly what Warner Brothers was expecting. A summer popcorn flick that seemed to lack the necessary sizzle, it looked like a potential disaster in the making. In what is probably the best move they could've made, the film is now taking a significant bump, moving from it's June 15th 2012 date all the way to March 22nd 2013. There it'll face less stiff competition in the form of Captain Phillips, the Somali pirates flick starring Tom Hanks.

Adam Shankman's jukebox musical, Rock of Ages, will take over the June 15th date now, putting Tom Cruise right into the thick of the summer season where he is king. It'll put him toe-to-toe with Adam Sandler, starring in the comedy I Hate You Dad with Andy Samberg. Sandler needs a hit, and squaring off against Cruise isn't a good way to get one, so don't be surprised if his film gets moved.
