Most of you probably don't care about this stuff, but some pretty big news went down in the last couple of days. Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the powerhouse Twilight franchise, was just bought by Lionsgate for $415M. While Summit has had multiple successes over the years, we all know their bread was buttered by those glittery, angst-ridden vampires.
Lionsgate knows that, too, and unlike Summit they have investors to answers to. With Breaking Dawn pt. 2 set to wrap up the $2.5B franchise, Lionsgate head Jon Feltheimer can't imagine this being the end...
Feltheimer: "I'm anticipating 'Breaking Dawn Part 2' being $700 million-plus in worldwide box office. It's hard for me to imagine a movie that does $700 million-plus doesn't have ongoing value. It's an amazing franchise that they have done a great job of maintaining with absolutely no deterioration. So the simple answer is 'Boy I hope so.'"
Another source within Lionsgate hinted that at the possibility of Twilight being adapted into a television series, which Feltheimer seemed to be very much in favor of. Would Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner come back for another film? Doubtful, since they all have already begun the process of moving on. Since this is the final Stephanie Meyer novel, it would have to be an all new story, a prequel or spinoff set in the same world. There are dozens of popular Twilight characters who could probably carry a spinoff movie or TV series, so don't be surprised if we see something like that happen. [Company Town]
