Scarlett Johansson is one sexy lady, and directors have sorta taken notice of that. You think she was picked to play the skintight spandex wearing, super flexible Black Widow for no reason? Or how about that rather demeaning performance in The Spirit? I tend to find Johansson to be hotter when she's playing more conventional roles as regular women, such as in We Bought A Zoo or Lost in Translation. She's pretty much irresistible in both. However, her sexiness is about to put to unconventional use in Under the Skin, the first film from director Jonathan Glazer since 2004's Birth.
Based on the book by Michael Faber, the story has Johansson as a man-hunting alien on Earth, using the form of a mesmerizing woman to trap her prey. Over time, she eventually comes to love the complexities of humanity. The first image has been released, and along with it news that the film is in post-production, so we may see it late this year or early next.
I think Glazer is a filmmaker with a ton of potential, but I wasn't a huge fan of either Sexy Beast or Birth, as both were wildly uneven movies. Hopefully the pieces will all come together for this one because I dig the sound of Johansson as a sort of Species-esque creature. [Cineuropa]
