Hayley Atwell to star in '10 Things I Hate About You' sequel

Yeah, you read that headline right. 1999's 10 Things I Hate About You was right in the thick of the teen comedy craze, and it turned out to be one of the smartest of the bunch. It didn't hurt that it featured a ton of future stars like Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. And what the frig ever happened to Larisa Oleynik? So hot. I know she was on Mad Men a couple times, but damn she should've been more.  Gil Junger, the director of that film is prepping a sorta sequel to it, 10 Things I Hate About Life, and he already has a star in Hayley Atwell.

Atwell, who most recently starred in Captain America: The First Avenger, will feature in the story that Junger says "advances the situations" from the previous film. the original was loosely based on Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, and basically it was about a nice guy who wanted to date the hot, popular chick in school, but couldn't until her older, less outgoing sister found a man. The film was turned into a terrible ABC Family TV series that lasted one season before getting the ax.

Junger's reasons for revisiting the film after so long away? Well, it's two things, and I appreciate his honesty on what they were. He says he got the inspiration for the story after he came across a man who had committed suicide at a scenic overlook. Well, isn't that cheery?  He also admits that he made more in residuals from the film last year than he did for directing it back in 1999. So in other words he wants to keep milking his cash cow. Can't really blame the guy, can we? Junger will not only direct but write the script, which makes me even more curious to see where this goes. [Variety]
