Lily Tomlin gains 'Admission' with Tina Fey and Paul Rudd

Lily Tomlin and Tina Fey? Sounds like a match made in comedy Heaven. The two could be long-lost comedy sisters or something, as the two share much of the same wit, strength, and forward thinking mentality. There's a reason they are two of the only three women to receive the prestigious Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Both brilliant ladies lent their voices to Hayao Miyazaki's animated Ponyo, but now we get to see them on-screen together in a film that should let them show what they really can do.

Tomlin has joined the cast of Admission, the upcoming film from director Paul Weitz(Being Flynn), and co-starring Paul Rudd. Based on the book by Jean Hanff Korelitz, Fey will play Portia Nathan, a Princeton University admissions officer who relishes her professional career even as her domestic life is in turmoil. She's forced to confront her troubled past when she reconnects with an old flame from Dartmouth(Rudd), and also a charismatic 17-year old prospect(Nat Wolff). Tomlin's role is unclear this stage. Also joining are Gloria Reuben(ER) and Wallace Shawn(The Princess Bride), with the former as a rival for Fey's character.

The script comes courtesy of Karen Croner(One True Thing), with filming set to begin in June during the hiatus before 30 Rock's final season.  I'm still a little confused on the tone, however. Is it a serious drama? A comedy? With Weitz directing, I'm guessing it's somewhere in-between, just like his In Good Company turned out to be. [Variety]
