Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright, and Nick Frost's 'The World's End' shoots in September!

Although a lot of people loved the silly British sitcom, Spaced, most of us came to know and love Simon Pegg and Nick Frost through the first two chapters of their 'Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy". Directed and co-written by Edgar Wright, those films include genre spoofs Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. As Wright became busier with Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Attack the Block, and the upcoming Ant-Man film for Marvel, word on the final part of the trilogy, titled The World's End, has been slim. Until now, that is.

Deadline reports that Working Title Films is targeting a September start date for production on the film, which like the others will have Pegg and Wright teaming on the script, with the latter behind the camera. As the title suggests, this one will likely have some sort of sci-fi twist to it, but here's the plot breakdown Deadline provides:

"20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries."

This may turn out to be the most lucrative film in the series, thanks to the increased profiles of all three involved. Pegg has been a part of two major franchises in Star Trek and Mission: Impossible, and has paired up with Frost on the sci-fi/comedy, Paul. The two also lent their voices to The Adventures of Tintin. Wright has become a fan favorite in his own right, obviously thanks to Scott Pilgrim and Ant-Man, and will only see his stock rise now that he's set to direct Johnny Depp's The Night Stalker remake.

If September does turn out to be the date, that leaves the future of Ant-Man in some doubt. Either Marvel is taking it totally out of rotation, or is bumping it back significantly. Or maybe Wright will only produce and continue co-writing the script with Joe Cornish, with someone else stepping in to direct? Just snowballin' here. Nothing is certain right now.

Whatever the case, this is fantastic news. My Shaun of the Dead DVD has pretty much been worn out from repeated viewings, so maybe now is a good time to go ahead and step up to the Blu-Ray and start all over again.
