Trailer Time: 'Gangster Squad', starring Ryan Gosling and Sean Penn

Let's start that Oscar race now, shall we? While there was some justifiable worry over Warner Brothers snatching away Gangster Squad's October release date, it's clear that the studio has the utmost faith in the star-studded mob flick to do some serious damage at the end of the year. As proof, they've presented us with one powerful, bullet-filled trailer.

Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Josh Brolin, Anthony Mackie, Giovanni Ribisi, Nick Nolte, Michael Pena, and Robert Patrick make up a phenomenal cast, in a story based on a series of LA Times articles about a specialized LAPD unit designed in the 1940s to take down east coast mobsters as they try to take control in the west coast. As Nolte's character makes perfectly clear, this operation is totally "off the books" and the violence spills out into the streets and the newspaper headlines. Ruben Fleischer(Zombieland) directed, based on a script by ex-cop, Will Beall. Penn's heavy prosthetics don't look quite right, but otherwise this looks to be exactly the type of muscular crime piece many were hoping for. There still isn't a new release date nailed, but you can expect that to change soon....
