Sure Shots: Rachel McAdams; Shawn Levy; Chloe Moretz

* A couple of big films for Rachel McAdams, as she continues to straddle the line between art house fare and mainstream romances. Coming off of The Vow, which earned nearly $200M earlier this year, she'll step into the sci-fi romance, About Time, a lower budgeted film written and directed by Richard Curtis(Love Actually). Zooey Deschanel was set for the female lead back in March, but now it appears McAdams will take on the role. Domhall Gleeson(Never Let Me Go) stars as man with the ability to travel back in time, where he meets the girl of his dreams. Bill Nighy and Tom Hollander make up a part of the supporting cast.

After that, she'll go immediately into A Most Wanted Man, from director Anton Corbijn(The American). An adaptation of John Le Carre's novel with echoes of the Bush administration's "war on terror", the story involves a Chechen/Russian man who is smuggled into Hamburg carrying an insane amount of cash and telling a wild tale that may or may not be true. Philip Seymour Hoffman joined the cast a couple months back, with Herbert Grönemeyer(Das Boot) circling the lead. McAdams' role is unclear as of now, but she's likely to play the lawyer who helps the man out of a serious jam. Filming is expected to begin in September.[THR]

* Shawn Levy(Real Steel) is in talks to replace Brett Ratner as director of The 39 Clues, based on the wildly popular of young adventure novels written by a ton of popular authors(including Rick Riordan of Percy Jackson fame). Levy's a definite step up from Ratner, although both are a far cry from Steven Spielberg, who was initially eying the novels for himself to direct. The central story of the fifteen novels centers on siblings Amy and Dan Cahill, who discover they are part of the most powerful and influential family in history. They set out on a journey to find the 39 clues, which are elements of a serum that will create some sort of superhuman being. The script is being adapted by Jeff Nathanson for a planned 2014 release. * Want to know why zombies haven't become tiresome even though there are more movies about them than ever? Because every now and then we get one with a rather unique spin that makes us forget the others with all the brain-eating and shuffling of feet. The latest zombie film is Maggie, and it has Chloe Moretz and Paddy Considine(In America) circling the two key roles. Directed by Henry Hobson, the story has Moretz in the title role as a girl who has become infected and faces a future as part of the walking dead. Considine would play her father, who must watch his daughter make the slow transformation, putting his unconditional love for her to the ultimate test. This sounds potentially incredible, so we'll definitely be keeping an eye on it. Filming is set to begin in September, so we may see it some time next year. [Variety]
