Alfosonso Poyart to direct Anthony Hopkins in serial killer flick, 'Solace'

Even though the film has been in development for a handful of years, Solace received something of a jumpstart last year when Anthony Hopkins came aboard to star. It puts Hopkins back into familiar, serial killer territory, only this time with a supernatural bent. The story, which features a most recent script draft by Peter Morgan(The Queen), follows a clairvoyant doctor(Hopkins) who is brought in by the cops to help stop a serial killer.

Variety reports that New Line has now tapped Brazilian director, Alfonso Poyart, to helm the film. He'll take over from Mark Pellington, who had been the first guy attached. Poyart isn't a director I'm familiar with, as his claim to fame is this year's 2 Coelhos, which he wrote, directed, and starred in. An American remake of that film is already in the works.

There hasn't been much to celebrate when it comes to Hopkins movies lately, and this sounds like a fairly generic effort as well.
