The Sunday Drive 5/13/12

3. Elles
Juliette Binoche experiences the empowering effect of prostitution(really!) in this erotic, French drama from director Malgorzata Szumowska. Binoche plays a journalist covering two young prostitutes who have found strength in their profession, forcing her to reexamine her own unfulfilling life.

2. Sound of My Voice
Compelling and wildly unpredictable, Brit Marling has finally crafted a film that lives up to her status as last year's festival darling. Directed by Zal Batmanglij, the story follows two investigative journalists infiltrating a rapidly growing cult in order to debunk its mysterious leader.
3. Marvel's The Avengers
It's been another week, which means hopefully you've seen The Avengers like two more times. Judging by the box office, you have. Get hyped for the inevitable sequel here!

DVD Pick of the Week: The Vow
Somebody want to grab Nicholas Sparks and force him to watch The Vow? Maybe then he'll realize how to make a genuinely affecting romance without venturing too deep into schmaltz and formula? Perhaps part of the reason for the film's success is that it's based on a remarkable true story of happy, newly married couple(although the real life folks look NOTHING like Tatum and McAdams) who are in a terrible auto accident. Both survive, however when she awakens she remembers nothing past a certain point in time, and unfortunately the memory of her husband no longer exists. Through some seriously heartbreaking circumstances, he's forced to try and win her love all over again, and it doesn't prove to be very easy.
