Trailer Time: 'Helter Skelter', starring Erika Sawajiri

Back in February we showed you the teaser for renowned photographer Mika Ninagawa's live-action adaptation of Helter Skelter, the award winning manga from Kyoko Okazaki. The film stars the controversial Erika Sawajiri as a model who undergoes radical plastic surgery to attain her beauty. When the company that performed the procedure is investigated for illegal practices, her looks begin to deteriorate along with her sanity. Sawajiri has had a turbulent relationship with both the Japanese press and various production agencies, and her return in such a major film has caused quite the stir.

I loved the teaser, as it showed Okazaki's rather vibrant color palette, along with a frenetic pace that reminded me a little bit of Takashi Miike. Now that the full-length trailer has been released, I'm even more hopeful the film will find its way here in some form. It's in Japanese, but I think you can get the desperation and the insanity presented in the footage. Helter Skelter opens in Japan on July 14th....
