First trailer for 'Unconditional', starring Michael Ealy and Lynn Collins

While Michael Ealy and his penetrating blue eyes have made him a favorite of the ladies for years, the last few months have seen him legitimately earning the label of "leading man", one he's deserved for a long time if you ask me. After co-starring alongside Kate Beckinsale in Underworld: Awakening, he melted down the screen in the surprise hit comedy, Think Like A Man. But his 2012 is far from over, and next month sees him starring opposite Lynn Collins(John Carter) in the Christian-themed drama, Unconditional.

Based on a true story, the film follows Samantha Crawford(Collins), who was living a happy life until her husband was killed in a senseless act of violence. At her lowest point and having lost her faith, Samantha's death-defying encounter with two children leads to her reunited with Joe Bradford(Ealy), her best friend from childhood, who has been struggling with his own problems. However he never lets that get him down, and turns his energy towards caring for other inner city youths, an act which inspires Samantha to find God's love once again.

Marking the feature debut of writer/director Bruce McCorkle, the film looks like a good showcase for Ealy's charisma and passion. What's potentially troubling is that the message of helping the less fortunate may get lost in the muddle of Samantha and Joe's backstory, not to mention her quest to find the man who killed her husband. Otherwise, it looks like a heartwarming and vital film that could be a nice addition to the crowded fall slate. We'll see if McCorkle can strike the right balance when Unconditional gets a limited release on September 21st....
