Fran Kranz takes the lead in comic noir, 'Murder of a Cat'

Hey, it pays to be on the Joss Whedon radar because it opens all sorts of opportunities. Although Fran Kranz has been around for longer than many think, it was on Whedon's short-lived TV series, Dollhouse, that people started to pay attention. Playing the smarter than he looks stoner in The Cabin in the Woods followed, and Kranz will also be seen in Whedon's low-budget indie, Much Ado About Nothing. Like we said, it's not bad being on Whedon's radar. But Kranz has established himself well enough that he's now taking on the lead in a promising new comedy co-starring a couple of screen veterans.

Kranz will replace the previously attached Jay Baruchel in Murder of a Cat, a comic film noir about a guy trying to solve the mystery of his pet cat's murder.  He'll join the always great J.K. Simmons(Juno) and Academy Award winner, Dianne Wiest(Bullets over Broadway).

The film marks the directorial debut for Gillian Greene-Raimi, the wife of Sam Raimi, and the Black List script comes from Christian Magalhars and Robert Snow. [Comingsoon]
