Eric Bana joins Peter Berg's Navy SEAL flick, 'Lone Survivor'

Peter Berg may have laid an egg with Battleship, but he's going to the Navy SEAL well one more time and in a major way. His passion project, Lone Survivor, has already secured Ben Foster, Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch, and Emile Hirsch, and now it's adding even more muscle.

Eric Bana will strap on his gear and join the adaptation of Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell's memoir, based on a real life event in 2005 where he and his squad were ambushed in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. His team was undertaking a covert operation to eliminate an Al Qaeda member with close ties to Osama Bin Laden. During the op, they ran across an old man and three boys, and rather than killing them as they were sanctioned to do under the rules of engagement, the squad decided to let them go. That decision turned out to be a mistake, as Luttrell's squad was ambushed soon after. Bana will play a  SEAL lieutenant, and considering his experience starring in Black Hawk Down, this should be like old hat for him.  They should make for an awesome tandem in what's shaping up to be one heck of a cast.

Production on Lone Survivor begins next month. [THR]
