Joe Carnahan confirmed to direct Mark Millar's 'Nemesis'

Has the corner turned on trusting Mark Millar and his "updates" on upcoming projects? It's almost like suddenly we've come to trust everything he has to say because he finally got something right when discussing Kick-Ass 2. And now he's got more info to drop on two other long-developing adaptations of his popular comics work.

Earlier this year we learned that Joe Carnahan(The Grey) had been circling the directing gig for an adaptation of Nemesis, Millar's incredible series about a supervillain with the intellect of Batman and the insanity of the Joker, who sets out to destroy the governments of the world. On his MillarWorld forum, Millar seems to confirm that Carnahan has won the job....

Millar: Mighty Joe Carnahan is directing (from a script by he and his brother Matthew), but this much you already know. Fox wanted us to get in the same room for the first time and really hash this out, which was exciting. Joe has a really brilliant take on this and Matt and he are going to take things from here so I'm really happy.

Carnahan has previously expressed interest in reuniting with his The Grey and The A-Team star, Liam Neeson, for the role of Blake Morrow, the police Chief who becomes Nemesis' primary target. Michael Fassbender's name has been kicked around to play Nemesis himself, which would be flat out amazing. Carnahan may have lost out on the Daredevil job, but this is far more interesting anyway.

Another project that Millar and X-men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn have been developing is The Secret Service,  about a rebellious young man who is recruited and trained by his secret agent uncle. Written by Millar and illustrated by Dave Gibbons(Watchmen), the first issue features a cameo by Mark Hamill, and so the film version might as well....

Millar: "[We] plan to make into a movie once [Vaughn has] wrapped the 'First Class' sequel next year. Our inner-geeks are buzzing about the idea of seeing Mark H play himself on the Lucas stage if that's where we end up filming… It'll be eighteen months at least before we get into a 'Secret Service' movie since 'X-Men 2' is such a huge commitment for Matthew."

Neither of these projects have been officially greenlit yet, so we'll see if they ever come to pass. Considering the successful track record of Millar adaptations with Wanted and Kick-Ass, you can pretty much count on them happening at some point.
