The Sunday Drive 8/19/12

3. Celeste and Jesse Forever/The Expendables 2
I cheated! Yeah, I cheated, so what? It was impossible to choose between this summer's finest romantic comedy and the balls out best action movie of the season. So why rack my brain? Now if only they could find a way to get Rashida Jones in The Expendables 3....

2. ParaNorman
The folks at LAIKA are doing some incredible things with stop-motion animation, and you can see the boundaries they're pushing in ParaNorman, a hilarious and macabre coming-of-age story with a deep love for classic zombie movies.
1. Compliance
Not many movies will force you to take a cold, hard look at yourself the way Craig Zobel's disturbing true-life thriller will. Compliance is the deeply unsettling story of a prank call at a fast food restaurant that goes out out of control, and the lives that are forever ruined by it.

DVD Pick of the Week: The Hunger Games
You probably don't need me to tell you anything more about The Hunger Games, as it was one of the highest grossing films of the year and loved by fans of Suzanne Collins' blockbuster novels. Jennifer Lawrence stars as Katniss Everdeen, forced into a deadly competition against 23 other young opponents. Thrilling, poignant, and featuring a number of great performances, The Hunger Games surpasses all expectations and is an ambitious start to the franchise.
