Joss Whedon to write and direct 'The Avengers 2'; working on Marvel TV series

I can scarcely think of anything more boring than listening in on a Walt Disney conference call with investors, but in this case there was actually something worth paying attention to. CEO Bob Iger announced that not only will Joss Whedon be back to write and direct The Avengers 2, but he's also working on that live-action Marvel TV series we learned about just a few days ago. Stoked yet?

If you're not, then you should be. The Avengers had all the potential in the world to be the biggest disappointment ever, with loads of flashy characters all vying for equal time, and Whedon managed to give them all their moment to shine. Not only that, he made the film funny, exciting, and seat of your pants exciting. Oh, and it's made like a gazillion dollars(and counting) at the box office. Marvel would have been balls stupid to let him go.

We likely won't see The Avengers sequel until 2015 at the earliest, but you can bet Whedon will have at least some passing influence on Marvel's upcoming slate leading up to it. [Slashfilm]
