Kristen Stewart not going back to 'Cali'; Amber Heard to step in?

Hmmm...maybe the temptation of Alex Pettyfer was too much for Kristen Stewart to handle in the wake of her recent tabloid scandals? Whatever her reasons, it appears Stewart has dropped out of the indie thriller, Cali, which she had been on board to star in and produce since last April. So what gives?

Honestly, it may just be a scheduling thing. Or maybe she doesn't want the added attention of being splashed across the cover of every rag magazine, as she would be forced to snuggle up with the heartthrob Pettyfer. Makes for some fairly obvious tabloid fodder, don't you think?  Stewart would have played Mya, who along with her boyfriend Chris(Pettyfer) make a ton of cash on a fake snuff film, then hightail it out of the San Fernando Valley. Years later, when they're forced to return to take care of a personal situation, they must contend with the wacky band of characters they screwed over.

Filming was set to begin fairly soon, so Voltage Pictures is going to have to scramble to find a suitable replacement. The word is that Amber Heard is in the crosshairs now, but nothing has been made official. We'll see what happens, and if this forces director Nick Cassavetes(Alpha Dog) to make any major changes.
