New trailer for steampunk martial arts flick, 'Tai Chi 0', produced by Jet Li

If somehow The Raid: Redemption didn't totally scratch the itch for martial arts fans earlier this year, I'm betting what's on tap this fall season will get the job done. The RZA's The Man with the Iron Fists is coming our way this November, but before that sees the release of Tai Chi 0, which has the potential to be even better.

As if boasting Jet Li as a producer wasn't enough, the action sequences were directed by the legendary Sammo Hung, who also did the same for the Ip Man movies and Kung Fu Hustle. The trailer shows he's using much the same kinetic style as before, with a little touch of humor to go along with it. The only thing which threw me off was the soundtrack, which has a Trent Reznor vibe to it. It works, just wasn't expecting that. The story takes place in a village where everyone is a martial arts master, fluent in the ways of Tai Chi. But when a mysterious villain using steam-powered weapons threatens to destroy everything, the townspeople must turn to an outsider with his own special powers to save the day. Martial arts. Steampunk. Yeah, I'm down for this in a major way.

Shot back-to-back with the sequel, Tai Chi Hero, the '0' implies that this is some sort of prequel or origin story, so we may be looking at the beginning of a new Hong Kong franchise with real crossover potential. Yuan Xiaochao makes his acting debut, joined by Shu Qi(The Transporter). Stephen Fung(House of Fury) is directing Tai Chi 0 for release on October 19th. Check out the trailer below....
