Sure Shots: Charlize Theron; Spike Lee; Craig Zobel
* Charlize Theron has picked up the rights to the Vanity Fair article, 'Marie Colvin's Private War' as a film she'll produce and possibly star in. The article tells the story of Colvin, an American journalist writing for British paper, The Sunday Times. A determined war correspondent, she was covering last year's Syrian uprising when she and a French photographer were killed when their media building was shelled by the Syrian military. It's been suspected that she was targeted specifically so as to leave no witnesses to the indiscriminate killings being perpetrated by the Syrian army. [THR]
* If you listened to last week's episode of PDC Live, then you heard Spike Lee talking a lot about his documentary, Bad 25, a film celebrating the 25th anniversary of Michael Jackson's seminal follow-up to 'Thriller'. Lee's enthusiasm for it was obvious, and now we'll get to see just how dear it was to him as ABC has plans of airing the film on Thanksgiving night. Bad 25 will make it's debut in Venice and then Toronto. [LA Times]
* While his true life indie drama Compliance is still unsettling audiences around the country, Craig Zobel is busy gearing up for what comes next. He recently signed on to direct an adaptation of Z for Zachariah with Tobey Maguire circling, and now Focus Features has picked up his pitch for an untitled thriller. Zobel will write and direct the film and....that's all we know about it right now as the plot is being kept secret. Listen out for our upcoming interview with Zobel in which he discusses Compliance and briefly talks about what we can expect from Z for Zachariah. [Variety]
