1st look at Lee Pace as Thranduil in 'The Hobbit'; plus a revealing new banner

Back in July we received a promo banner for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey which seemed to clue us in on the entire journey made by Bilbo and his band of fighting dwarves on their way to defeat the dragon, Smaug. It ended with the band headed downriver not long after escaping the giant spider's lair, but that banner was released before the series was expanded into three movies. Now it appears as if some restructuring has taken place.

The new Apple iOS app has a number of new photos, most of which give us some great looks at the dwarf characters in the film, including Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield. We're also getting our first look at Lee Pace(The Fall) as elven king Thranduil, the father of Legolas(Orlando Bloom). Not sure what's up with his 'Rocky Horror' outfit, though. But also included is a brand spankin' new banner which shows the film ending on a different note, in a scene in which Bilbo, Gandalf, and the rest hide in trees to escape a pack of wolves, only to cause a forest fire while trying to fight their way out. Oops.

Check out the banner below(click to expand), followed by the rest of the new pics. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens on December 14th....
