1st trailer for Jackie Robinson biopic '42' hits a grand slam

Are you ready for some baseball!!!? Chances are people will have more than their fill of baseball dramas with Clint Eastwood's Trouble with the Curve opening this weekend, but that film isn't really about baseball so much as it about resolving old family disputes. So here's hoping audiences keep their mind open to seeing the sport on screen not long after because the trailer for Jackie Robinson biopic 42 is here, and it's a definite home run.

Starring newcomer Chadwick Boseman as the legendary, color-barrier breaking athlete, the film chronicles his tumultuous life and career as the first black Major League Baseball player. From the moment Jay-Z's "Brooklyn Go Hard" kicks in it's clear this won't be just some rigid by-the-numbers walk through history, as the film seems to have some real teeth to it.   Harrison Ford plays Brooklyn Dodgers exec Branch Rickey, with Nicole Beharie as Robinson's wife. Jon Bernthal, T. R. Knight, Christopher Meloni, Ryan Merriman, and John C. McGinley co-star as other important figures in the sports world, some who supported Robinson's signing and others who didn't.

Written and directed by Brian Helgeland, 42 opens next year on April 12th....
