First trailer for Barry Levinson's found footage eco-horror, 'The Bay'

Hard to believe that the 70-year old director of great films like Diner and Rain Man would dabble in the realm of found footage horrors, but that's exactly what Barry Levinson has done with The Bay. The eco-horror has been mostly under the radar for awhile, probably due to low expectations since Levinson hasn't had a feature film of note in years, but with a debut in Toronto right around the corner a surprisingly promising new trailer has been released.

Back in his Maryland stomping grounds, Levinson appears to be channeling a number of different horror influences for The Bay. Everything from Paranormal Activity to Jaws  to Steven Soderbergh's Contagion appear to be a factor, and the combination is one that's terrifyingly real and more than a little disgusting. Remember that news story about the discovery of a tongue-eating parasite found near France a few years ago? Well that seems to be the basis of the film, as a deadly viral outbreak devastates Chesapeake Bay residents who quickly begin to freak out as the virus spreads. Some of the footage is extremely disturbing, with the found footage aspect used expertly to capture the insanity of the situation.

Levinson not only directs, but developed the story and produces along with Paranormal Activity creator, Oren Peli. The Bay hits ITunes and theaters on November 2nd.....
