James Cameron won't film three 'Avatar' movies back-to-back

James Cameron's solely in "the Avatar business", that much we know based on what he told us back in May. But a month later in a Showbiz 411 story about Sigourney Weaver's upcoming schedule, they reported that Cameron would be filming Avatars 2, 3, and 4 back-to-back. It's unclear if that was ever true or if the site was just speculating, because producer Jon Landau has a totally different idea for how it'll go down.

While talking to the Courier Post, Landau says  “We are doing two back-to-back, but not a third.". Does this mean that plans for a fourth film have been totally scrapped? Or has Cameron just backed off on what would be a mammoth undertaking shooting three movies in rapid fire succession?

Initially, the plan was to have Avatar 2 ready by December 2014, however Landau also stated earlier this year that it was still a good four years away. So whatever decision Cameron makes in regards to Avatar 4, we're going to waiting a long time for it.
