Melissa Leo joins Hugh Jackman in 'Prisoners'

It's been a long, hard road for Prisoners to make its way to the big screen, but it finally appears to be happening. Or so we hope. Every few months we get an update of some sort that sounds promising, with nothing ever really coming of it. The most recent was last March when Hugh Jackman, who had been on board the film initially but dropped out, came back into the fold. Six months later and now we're learning of a new addition in the form of Oscar winner, Melissa Leo.

Directed by Denis Villeneuve(Incendies) and based on a Black List script by Aaron Guzikowski(Contraband), the film follows a small town carpenter who takes the law into his own hands when the cops prove useless in finding the men who kidnapped his daughter and best friend. It's unclear who Leo will play, but considering she spent years as detective Kay Howard on TV's Homicide, I'm hoping she'll play one of the investigators Jackman must contend with.

Conspicuously absent from Variety's report? Villeneuve. So there's always the chance he dropped out along the way. The plan is for filming to begin next year once Jackman finishes up stabbing ninjas in The Wolverine.
