New 'Kick-Ass 2' set pics show Donald Faison as Dr. Gravity, Chloe Moretz as Hit-Girl, and more

We don't usually traffic in set photos here, mainly because so many films rely heavily on post-production to achieve the look they're going for. A prime example was the recent reveal of the Robocop suit, which looks kinda stupid until you remember the finished product will likely look very different. In the case of Kick-Ass 2, however, part of its charm are the simple homemade costumes the heroes are sporting. So set photos of the cast in action carry a bit more weight.

A handful of new images have been released which re-introduce us to Aaron Johnson and that wretched Kick-Ass costume. It works in the context of the film but sheesh it's ugly. We also see a number of other members of his Kick-Ass's new vigilante squad, Justice Forever. We also get our first look at Clark Duke reprising his role as Evan, who has become the costumed hero Battle Guy. There's also a glimpse of Robert Emms in costume as Insect Man, Donald Faison in the awesome Dr. Gravity suit, and of course there's Chloe Moretz back as the super popular Hit-Girl.  I'm not sure who's playing them, but we even get a shot of the husband and wife heroes, Remembering Tommy. If you're interested in seeing bodybuilder Olga Kurkulina as the villainous Mother Russia, you can just go here.

Unlike many others I'm not at all concerned about Jeff Wadlow taking over as director for Matthew Vaughn. Wadlow's a solid director, and we still have Vaughn's script, so I doubt there will be much of a quality drop. My chief concern is the story itself. Mark Millar's sequel wasn't bad, but there were so many characters that it just lacked a little focus. I'm curious to see how that's rectified here. They've made some pretty significant changes to the costumes compared to the comic so it wouldn't be surprising if the story has been changed, too.

Anyway, Kick-Ass 2 opens on June 28th 2013....[CBM/LatinoReview/Slashfilm]
