Sure Shots: Cynthia Nixon; Peter Facinelli; Tony Leung
* Cynthia Nixon, the only gal on Sex and the City ever worth tuning in for, will play poet Emily Dickinson in a new biopic, A Quiet Passion. Written and directed by Terence Davies(The Deep Blue Sea), the film will follow the legendary writer from her youth as a precocious schoolgirl to the tortured recluse she would later become. Despite her overwhelming fame and lasting influence, Dickinson had less than a dozen of her poems published while she was alive. [THR]
* With The Twilight Saga wrapping up in just a couple of months, Peter Facinelli is jumping aboard another film with supernatural elements to it. He'll star in Gallows Hill, a new horror from director Victor Garcia(Return to House on Haunted Hill) and co-starring Sophia Myles(Underworld) and Nathalia Ramos. Facinelli will play a man widowed man who flies to Bogota with his new fiance to pick up his rebellious teen daughter. When a car accident leaves them stranded in a rundown inn, they discover that the innkeeper has a young girl locked in the basement. [THR]
* Hong Kong superstar Tony Leung(Lust, Caution) will star in his first Japanese film as the lead in Kiyoshi Kurosawa's period drama 1905. Co-starring Shota Matsuda and Atsuko Maeda, the film takes place in 1905 Yokohama and has Leung as a Chinese moneylender who races against a Japanese nationalist to track down five revolutionaries they both want for different reasons. Matsuda will play the nationalist, while Maeda will play a girl who cooks and cares for Leung's character. It's a change of pace for Kurosawa, who is best known as a director of Japanese horror.[Variety]
