Warner Bros. sets 'The Great Gatsby' for May 10th 2013
After pissing people like me off with their relatively last second decision to move Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby from its Christmas 2012 date, Warner Bros. has now slated the glitzy F. Scott Fitzgerald adaptation for May 10th 2013. It's a bit of a mixed bag move, as on the surface it would seem to indicate a lack of faith in the film's Oscar hopes. The studio has seen other high profile, high budget flicks crash n' burn during that month(hello Dark Shadows!), but there have also been a few Best Picture winners as well. The most recent I believe was 2005's Crash, and Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge opened quite successfully in May 2001.
It's a pretty wide open weekend, with the only competition being Richard Curtis' sci-fi film About Time with Rachel McAdams, and Tyler Perry's We the Peeples. So with a cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton, and Isla Fisher The Great Gatsby should easily be the film to beat.
