Sure Shots: Vince Vaughn; Jennifer Garner; 'V/H/S 2'

* Although it's never really been his bag, the last few months have seen Vince Vaughn reaching for films that would put him squarely in the action realm. Last summer he signed up to produce and star in The Risk Agent, while also attaching himself to Randall Wallace's Gunslingers. Now he's adding another genre film to his list, joining the action-thriller Triple Time. Co-Written by Michael J. Wilson and director Peter Billingsley(Couples Retreat), Vaughn plays a broke U.S. Marshall transporting to Washington, D.C. a prison accused of committing an environmental disaster. When their transport explodes, the two must team up to find the culprit, which could include either of them. [Variety]

* With Hilary Swank recently dropping out of The Dallas Buyer's Club, the new film from director Jean-MarcVallee(The Young Victoria) and starring Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner has come aboard to take her place. With Gael Garcia Bernal co-starring, the film recounts the true story of Ron Woodruff, an AIDS patient who in 1986 wasn't given long to live, but saw his health improve with the help of non-FDA approved medications. He began providing the drugs to other patients in his "club", which got the government more than a little upset. Garner will take on the female lead as Dr. Eve Saks. Production begins in just a couple of weeks so expect the cast to be finalized soon. [Deadline]

* With Halloween just now wrapping up, I'm guessing more than a few people scratched their horror itch with the anthology, V/H/S. Featuring a number of today's hottest genre directors, the film has proven to be quite a hit on VOD and in limited theatrical release, so much so that a sequel is already deep in the works. This time around a new crew of directors will be dreaming up the twisted crap on those nasty video tapes. Gareth Evans(The Raid: Redemption), Eduardo Sanchez(The Blair Witch Project), Jason Eisener(Hobo with a Shotgun), Timo Tjahjanto(Macabre), and the returning Adam Wingard are the most high-profile names already on board. As far as storyline goes, it appears to involve a private investigator an his assistant in search of a missing student, and are drawn to a home where the video tapes are found. [THR]
