The monster attacks in first footage from 'The Host 2'

Although he'd been around for awhile, South Korean director Bong Joon-Ho really came to fame with 2006's The Host, a brilliant monster movie with incredible special effects and some pretty harsh social commentary to boot. He went on to direct the excellent mystery thriller, Mother, and has the eagerly awaited Snow Piercer right around the corner. In 2007 we began to hear talk of a sequel, and with Joon-Ho moving on, commercials director Park Myeong-chan took over. Word has been quiet on it ever since, except to announce release date plans which never seem to pan out, but now we're getting a first look at the film and I'm definitely impressed.

Twitch have the first footage from The Host 2, which is a prequel surrounding the dreaded Han River monster. The footage is little more than an action reel as the creature chases down a pair of kids, but right away we can tell that VFX studio Macrograph haven't let the special effects quality slip. Included in the clip is a breakdown of the scene which is pretty cool in and of itself.

As for when The Host 2 will come out? Well, it was set for last summer but that didn't happen, so right now it's still up in the air. Check out the clip below....
