Alicia Vikander joins Bill Condon's Wikileaks film
Short of Joe Wright's dazzling production design, there wasn't a whole lot that I liked about Anna Karenina. Where that doesn't extend is to the performance by Alicia Vikander, who shined through an otherwise stagnant and passionless film. With her also gaining a lot of attention for the period romance, A Royal Affair, she's clearly a star on the rise, and now she's just joined one of next year's more interesting films.
Bill Condon has added her to his upcoming Wikileaks film, joining Benedict Cumberbatch and the recently added Daniel Bruhl. Based on a pair of books, one written by Julian Assange's former right-hand man Daniel Domscheit-Berg(Bruhl), the film presents the Wikileaks founder as an activist who let the power he held go to his head and effect the ethics of his work. Vikander will play Bruh's co-worker and love interest.
Doesn't sound like much of a role, does it? But then again, Rooney Mara's part wasn't big in The Social Network, and look what that did for her. It's all about being in the right film at the right time, and this may be it for Vikander. [Variety]
