Ben Affleck drops out of 'Focus' with Kristen Stewart

I just finished talking to Kathleen Stafford, one of the real life hostages depicted in Ben Affleck's Argo, and she commented on his intelligence and worldliness that led to that film's great success. That success has led to an increasingly busy schedule, as she juggles his press commitments and all the awards season lobbying, not to mention he's got a handful of other projects in various stages of development. At some point there had to come a tipping point, and now one of his upcoming acting gigs has fallen by the wayside.

Variety reports that Affleck has dropped out of Focus, the heist/romance that would have seen him paired up with Kristen Stewart. Anybody else creeped out by the idea of them as a couple? Anyway, it comes from Glenn Ficarra and John Requa(Crazy Stupid Love) and follows a veteran conman who hooks up with a newcomer, only to have their brief relationship have long lasting consequences. Warner Bros. is backing this one, so assume they'll look for another A-lister to fill Affleck's spot.

So what's Affleck doing that's got him so busy? He's currently adapting Dennis Lehane's Live By Night, has a big screen version of The Stand, and also that long-developing Whitey Bulger flick. That's plenty, but maybe there's something more political at play? Like maybe a run for Congress?
