New trailer and posters for Baz Luhrmann's 'The Great Gatsby'

By now we should've been hip deep in awards buzz for Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby, but the film was knocked off that trajectory and sent hurtling down to next spring. The reasons why are different depending on who you ask, I blame a desire to get away from the overcrowded December, but the net result is Luhrmann's bold and glitzy take on the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic now has considerably less momentum working for it than it once did.

That could be changing as the marketing machine has gotten underway in earnest this week with a number of great character posters highlighting the incredible cast. Two more have been released today, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby and Carey Mulligan a Daisy Buchanan. Along with them comes a brand new trailer, which looks like it was cut in anticipation of an Oscar run for DiCaprio. This one shows the many faces of Gatsby, from the suave and shrewd businessman to the passionate lover, and also a man hiding a mysterious past. Luhrmann's never been a director known for holding back, and it's served him well thus far, but I have to question that oddly placed cover of "So Happy Together".

The Great Gatsby opens on May 10th 2013....
