New teaser posters for Studio Ghibli's two 2013 films

This proved to be a pretty good year for Studio Ghibli and their growing impact in North America. The Secret World of Arrietty, co-written by the legendary Hayao Miyazaki, was a huge hit, adding $23M to its worldwide haul of $145M. An impressive showing, and one that hopefully means more Ghibli films will be headed to our shores next year.

We've known for awhile that the studio had two projects coming up in next summer, and now we have official announcements along with two absolutely gorgeous teaser posters. The first is The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, and is directed by Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata, his first film since 1999. Takahata first announced the film back in 2009, basing it on the folktale about a princess named Kaguya who was discovered as a baby inside the stalk of a glowing bamboo plant

The second is The Wind Rises, and comes from Miyazaki himself, adapting his own short story which follows the life of Jiro Hirokoshi, designer of the WWII Zero fighter plane. You don't see any of that in the poster, though, as it shows only a young girl painting on a windy day.

Both films will come out in Japan on the same day but will be totally separate and not a double-feature as some suspected. Chances are we won't see them here for awhile, unless they get a brief run to qualify for the Oscars. [EIGA via ANN]
