Oh yeah, it's romantic comedy season again. While we're probably going to get a lot of formulaic crap hurled at us over the next couple of months, we occasionally get a few golden apples that shine bright for the entire year. Friends with Kids was one example for us in 2012, and I Give It A Year could be the one that emerges in 2013.
We caught a trailer for the promising Brit rom-com last month, but I think this is a much funnier cut. Rose Byrne and Rafe Spall are two very different, extremely happy newlyweds who have a bunch of friends convinced they won't make it as a couple. The always excellent Anna Faris is Spall's ex-girlfriend who turns up to provide some temptation, while Byrne draws the attention of a handsome client played by Simon Baker. The rest of the cast is stellar, with Minnie Driver, Jason Flyming, and Stephen Merchant providing some laughs. Borat scribe Dan Mazer penned the screenplay and is directing so the potential for this to be a bit more ballsy than the standard genre fluff is certainly there.
I Give It A Year opens in the U.K. on February 8th, and hopefully it does well enough to secure stateside distribution....
