'Skyfall' writers to pen a Kojak film starring Vin Diesel

Despite the bald head, did anybody have Vin Diesel as the guy to play the iconic detective, Kojak? Probably not, but according to Deadline that's exactly what will happen as Diesel is set to play the  cynical and rule-breaking gumshoe, personified by Telly Savalas in the famous 1970s TV series and a number of small screen movies.

Before you peg this as just another crappy big screen remake of a beloved television show, just simmer down and take heart that the script comes from Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. Don't know them? They're the long-time James Bond scribes who most recently penned Skyfall. Feel better now? Good.

I'll be interested to see where Purvis and Wade decide to take this, because Kojak is a character who was always a little light-hearted, and the show more spirited. It certainly wasn't Law & Order: SVU or anything like that. They tried to redo the series back in 2005 with Ving Rhames, and while he was pretty good in the role, the show lacked that playfulness and so was short lived.

We'll probably have a better idea of the tone once a director has been secured. Who loves ya, baby!
