'The Muppets' director James Bobin to helm musical 'Tribyville'
After getting his start with Da Ali G Show and Flight of the Conchords for HBO, James Bobin proved he could handle a big screen musical/comedy with The Muppets. No easy task bringing the beloved Jim Henson characters back into prominence, and he'll be attempting to keep them in the spotlight when filming on the sequel begins shortly. But he's also got plenty of other stuff on the way, and now he's added yet another musical to his slate.
The Wrap reports Bobin will direct Tribyville, a period musical based on his own script that Disney is acquiring from Will Ferrell's Gary Sanchez Productions. Clearly, Disney is keen on keeping Bobin in the fold by making this deal. Plot details are being kept under wraps, and considering the vast world of difference between Gary Sanchez and Disney, it's unclear whether this is something raunchy or light-hearted.
It's also unclear when this would roll. The Muppets 2 will be taking up much of his time this year, and let's not forget Bobin also signed on to direct the spy flick Agent Zigzag.
