Although his roles were small, Jeremy Strong appeared in two of the year's biggest political dramas, Zero Dark Thirty and Lincoln. Not only did this put him on the radars of both Steven Spielberg and Kathryn Bigelow, but it's also opened the door to his next project, another film based on an important event in our history.
Variety says that Strong has landed the role of infamous killer Lee Harvey Oswald in Parkland, the upcoming film centered on the events at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, TX where they were treating JFK after he was shot. Written and directed by Peter Landesman, it sounds like this will be more of an ensemble dramatic piece rather than an Oliver Stone-esque conspiratorial thriller. To me it sounds a lot like 2006's underrated film, Bobby, which followed a group of people leading up to the events of Bobby Kennedy's assassination. It's unclear just how big Strong's role will be, but since he's playing such an important figure in this story it could be fairly large. Oswald was soon assassinated himself by Jack Ruby, and ironically taken to Parkland where he died. Strong joins an impressive cast that includes Paul Giamatti, Billy Bob Thornton, Jacki Weaver, Zac Efron and Marcia Gay Harden.
Filming on Parkland should begin soon, with plans to release the film late this year to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Kennedy's death.
