Jason Clarke officially enters Stephen Gaghan's 'Candy Store'

If it hasn't become obvious yet, Jason Clarke is poised to make some heavy news this year. The Zero Dark Thirty and Lawless star recent grabbed the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes lead, and has The Great Gatsby in just a couple of months. Now he's also the first to officially board Candy Store, the new film from Traffic scribe Stephen Gaghan. Here's what Clarke told MTV....

“Then I’m doing a film with Gaghan after that, Stephen Gaghan. It’s called Candy Store,” Clarke said. “I can’t tell you what it’s about.”

What the film is about is a former elite, highly trained deep cover operative who loses everything, and so seeks to begin his life again in Brooklyn as a beat cop. Only he soon discovers that the global organization he was dedicated to fighting is operating in his own backyard.

The film attracted a lot of talent early on, with Denzel Washington and Brad Pitt entering early talks. Christian Bale, Jamie Foxx, Matt Damon, and Ben Affleck were also interested at different stages. Christoph Waltz is being eyed for the role of Black Zemba, whoever that is. Chris Hemsworth was reportedly offered a role back in November, but I think Clarke may be taking it instead.

Candy Store is expected to shoot later this year, and if even half of the names mentioned sign on then this is going to be something special.
