Rather than playing more innocent Frodo Baggins type characters, Elijah Wood has taken a much darker path, and it's one I'm having a good time watching. He seems to have slipped into the role of serial killer nicely in the upcoming horror remake, Maniac, which is due out later this year. For his next role he'll play an obsessed man stalking Sasha Grey from his computer in Open Windows, and a new poster for it has just been released.
The film is directed by Nacho Vigalondo, the Academy Award-winning filmmaker behind the wildly inventive Timecrimes back in 2007, and he's come up with a way to set Open Windows apart from a visual standpoint. Wood plays a man who becomes infatuated with an actress portrayed by Grey, and he discovers a way of spying on her through his computer. Vigalando has apparently shot it so it's as if we're seeing everything play out via his Desktop. So it's as if we're watching through the "open windows".
The visual tricks could get old really fast, but I like Vigalondo as a director and Wood when he's doing creepy. I'm really a big fan of Sasha Grey now, as well. Her performance in The Girlfriend Experience has really grown on me over the years. She's more than just that ex-porn chick, becoming a reasonably dependable actress. There's a reason top notch directors want to work with her. The film doesn't have distribution yet, but I'm anxious to see a trailer.
