Daniel Craig won't be among George Clooney's 'Monuments Men'

Some are already starting to talk about Monuments Men as a potential Oscar contender for next year, and for good reason. In fact, I'll be talking about just that on The Arch Campbell Show this week, so keep an eye out for that.  The film is George Clooney's next directorial effort, which has him starring alongside a cast that rivals Ocean's Eleven in sheer star power.

As production gears up in Germany, a final cast listing has been announced, and unfortunately one major piece is missing. Daniel Craig is out, apparently replaced by Matt Damon, who joined the film last December.  Co-star Bob Balaban (Moonrise Kingdom) took to Twitter to confirm the whole switcheroo...

"DC isn't in MM Matt Damon is."

With the film also featuring Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin, Bill Murray, John Goodman, and Hugh Bonneville it's not a loss that will hurt things too much. Clooney co-wrote the script with Grant Heslov, detailing the true story of a team of art enthusiasts during WWII, hired by President Roosevelt to reclaim priceless works of art stolen by the Nazis. With Alexandre Desplat scoring the soundtrack, there's absolutely no reason why this won't be a major awards player when it opens on December 18th.
