Robert Pattinson threatened by Guy Pearce in first look at 'The Rover'

First announced last May with the signing of Robert Pattinson and Guy Pearce, word has been extremely quiet on The Rover ever since. Directed by David Michod, who shot to fame with the Aussie crime thriller Animal Kingdom, the film is now in front of cameras and we're getting our first look at it.

EW has dropped the new image from the futuristic western, and it looks like Pattinson's in a little bit of trouble. Set in the Australian outback against the backdrop of an economic collapse, the film has Pearce as a man who finds his car and his invaluable possessions stolen by a gang. Pattinson plays a naive, injured member of the gang who the man forces to help him. It sounds a little bit like Mad Max, and Michod has even noted the similarity himself while making quite the boast about his film...

Michod: “You put cars in the desert in Australia and people are going to think of 'Mad Max. And with all due respect to that film — and I stress that — I think 'The Rover' is going to be way more chillingly authentic and menacing.”
