Ophelia Lovibond joins 'Guardians of the Galaxy'

The seemingly random casting for Guardians of the Galaxy continues. Just days after Michael Rooker joined the film as the alien archer, Yondu, THR reports that Brit actress Ophelia Lovibond has come aboard in an unknown role. She'll star alongside Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and Dave Bautista in what is expected to be Marvel's most offbeat Phase Two feature.

There are no hard details on who Lovibond will be, but speculation has her as an assistant to The Collector, one of the cosmic Elders of the Universe. The Elders are a group of powerful beings who are each the last member of their race, and they usually have some sort of personal obsession that occupies their eternal lifespan. The Collector's gift of prophecy foretold of Thanos and the threat he presented, so he began collecting various lifeforms to keep them safe. Just having one of the Elders in the film speaks to just how epic in scope the story may be. For instance, he once possessed the Reality Gem, one of the gems that comprise Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet, a weapon powerful enough to destroy the universe. Those who paid attention during Thor may have seen the Gauntlet sitting in Odin's trophy room.

Lovibond hasn't made much of a splash here in the States, having made small appearances in Mr. Popper's Penguins and No Strings Attached. At the rate this cast is growing, can Adam Warlock be far behind? Guardians of the Galaxy shoots for the stars on August 1st 2014.
