The many problems faced by Relativity's attempt at rebooting James O'Barr's gothic comic book hero The Crow are well-documented. Mark Wahlberg, Bradley Cooper, and most recently James McAvoy have all circled the project in one form or another, and that's not counting the numerous changes behind the camera. Right now F. Javier Gutierrez (Before the Fall) is directing, and he may on the verge of securing The Avengers baddie Tom Hiddleston for the title role.
According to The Wrap, Hiddleston recently met with producers and gave them an early make-up test that he did on his own, with a more elaborate one to come in the near future. He's already showing more outward interest in the role than any of the previous contenders, which should make fans of the popular character happy. The Crow follows a man who returns from the grave to avenge his own murder as well as that of his lover. The character has been portrayed on screen numerous times before, most notably by Brandon Lee in the 1994 film directed by Alex Proyas.
This would be a pretty sweet move for Hiddleston, and a logical move to capitalize on the popularity of his performance as Loki which. I'm guessing fans of The Crow, who have been getting lured around by the nose for years, would be happy with this move.
Filming could begin this fall if everything falls into place.
