Amber Heard and Zac Efron to hit the 'Autobahn' for Eran Creevy

Has the corner finally turned for Zac Efron? Is he on the verge of a Matthew McConaughey-style career shift? Well, as much as I mostly find him vanilla milquetoast as a leading man, he's occasionally shown flashes of genuine talent in Me & Orson Welles and Ramin Bahrani's amazing At Any Price. On the other hand, my girl Amber Heard is still waiting for that one plum role to send her over the top. I may love Drive Angry like nobody's business, but it isn't exactly fine art. Chances are it won't be her next film, which sees her teaming up with Efron, but it sounds like it could be a fun ride nonetheless.

Heard and Efron will headline Autobahn, the latest project from rising star director Eran Creevy. The Brit filmmaker made a strong debut a few years ago with Shifty, and followed it up recently with the James McAvoy crime thriller Welcome to the Punch. Co-written by Creevy and F. Scott Frazier, the story has Efron as a backpacker, with Heard as his girlfriend, who is hired as a pickup driver for a gang of German drug smugglers. When the job goes belly up, they are forced to flee, leading to a high-speed chase along the titular freeway.

Filming is set to begin this fall.
