'Men in Black 4' in the works from writer Oren Uziel; will also rewrite '21 Jump Street' sequel
After a ten year gap that would prove fatal to most franchises, Men in Black proved its resiliency with the third film earning $624M, the largest of the series. That got Sony Pictures thinking sequel almost immediately, with their chief stating last summer that he felt it was an "ongoing franchise". But there hasn't been any confirmed movement on anything until now, as the studio has hired Oren Uziel to begin work on a script for Men in Black 4.
Uziel's Black List script for genre mash-up The Kitchen Sink is already in production at the studio, and they must really love it if they're so quick to keep him under their roof. Clearly they see a lot of potential in him, as he's also been asked with rewriting Jonah Hill and Michael Bacall's screenplay for the 21 Jump Street sequel. We know that film will find Hill and Channing Tatum headed off to college, but details on Men in Black 4 are still being kept quiet.
This doesn't go anywhere without Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones signing on, so expect deals to be locked in place soon. Barry Sonnenfeld has directed every film up to this point, and will likely be asked back. [TheWrap]
