Robert Downey Jr. reunites with Jon Favreau for 'Chef'

Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Favreau have just completed three Iron Man movies together, two of which Favreau directed and all of them global juggernauts. Iron Man 3 is out right now devouring everything in its wake, so what's left to do? No, not Iron Man 4. That seems unlikely at this point. But what if Happy Hogan and Tony Stark teamed up for an indie about a down on his luck chef?

Downey has just signed on to join Chef, which Favreau will write, direct, and also take the lead role in. He'll play a chef who loses his job, starts up a food truck, and reclaims his culinary passion while also trying to reclaim his estranged family. John Wells and Bradley Cooper are developing a similar film with the same title, but the two have nothing to do with one another. Downey's role is unclear, but he'll become part of a slightly less Avengery ensemble consisting of Sofia Vergara, Bobby Cannavale, and John Leguizamo.

Favreau began his filmmaking career in the realm of indie cinema before he became engulfed in the Hollywood machine, so it's nice to see him come full circle. Although with Downey on board now, there's little chance of Chef flying under the radar.
